Sandi Bowen’s studio emphasizes love of playing and playing forever. She wants her students to be excited about their lessons and anxious to go home and practice. She accomplishes these goals by giving engaging and creative lessons that are enjoyable and inspiring.

The most exciting part of her studio is her library of music:  in addition to classical piano repertoire which is the backbone of her teaching, she networks with a number of today’s composers writing exciting and fun pieces. Canadian Andrea Dow composes terrific books of pop-infused classics like Amadeus Anthems, as well as hilarious (and secretly pedagogically sound) titles like Smells Like Treble, Fearless Fortissimo, and Sandi’s personal favorite, Muttzart and Ratmaninoff. Floridian Carol Matz has written a five-volume series, Interactive Piano Method, which combines excellent teaching pieces with reinforcements of recordings and engaging online theory games.

Lessons are lively. She’ll go over pieces from the last week, sight read new works, and play games. Lessons are always a positive experience and students leave happy. That’s why she’s loved this profession so much and for so long.

Sandi holds BA and MA degrees from Mills College where she studied with French composer Darius Milhaud in addition to her doctoral study at Stanford University in Music Education.
